Daniel Stark hosted a child safety seat check on Saturday, September 12, 2009, in honor of National Seat Check Saturday. This was a time to not only raise awareness about the importance of using child safety seats, but also to educate the community about how to properly install and maintain this life-saving equipment. This year’s event had record-breaking results with 135 inspections. That’s 51 more inspections than last year’s event!
Certified child-passenger safety technicians under the supervision of Texas AgriLife Extension Service Passenger Safety were on hand to inspect child safety seats and to help parents and caregivers learn how to properly install child safety seats in their vehicles. In spite of rain showers, the event ran smoothly thanks to the excellent technicians and volunteers.
Out of the event’s youngest participants, only two children arrived correctly restrained while 46 children arrived completely unrestrained. At this year’s event, the firm was able able to make a positive impact in several ways. Here are the stats:
- 135 child safety seat inspections
- 107 new child safety seats being distributed
- 28 old/unsafe seats being collected
The proper use of child safety seats reduces the risk of injury and death, leading to reduced medical costs, avoidance of lost future earnings, and improved quality of life.
