If you’re a parent or grandparent, you know the struggle of getting kids away from screens and into the great outdoors. At Sawed-Off CrossFit in College Station, Texas, Kimberly Joiner is changing this narrative. With a passion for fitness and a heart for community, she’s leading the charge in introducing kids to a healthier, active lifestyle.

A Gym with a Mission

At Sawed-Off CrossFit, the youth program is anything but ordinary. Kids aged 5 to 13 are getting their heart rates up through activities that range from running and rowing to lifting. This isn’t just about getting fit – it’s about laying the foundation for lifelong wellness. Kimberly, the head coach, says, “I just love having kids move and – my own kids – I love them being athletic.”

It goes beyond physical fitness. Kimberly’s program emphasizes team-building, leadership, and confidence. It’s about crafting well-rounded individuals who understand the value of working together and pushing themselves beyond perceived limits.

Breaking Barriers with Fire Aggieland

Understanding that not all families can afford these classes, Kimberly helped establish a non-profit called Fire Aggieland. “It offers scholarships to parents that can provide all the basic needs for their kids, but probably not for fitness,” Kimberly explains. “We offer full scholarships for them to come and work out.”

This initiative has opened doors for many children, allowing them access to fitness opportunities they might not have had otherwise. It’s a testament to Kimberly’s belief that every child deserves a chance to be active, regardless of their circumstances.

Building a Community Around Fitness

The impact of Kimberly’s work extends beyond the gym walls. The program has become so successful that it’s expanded to include a second coach, and they even take the workouts to school campuses for free. And it’s not just the kids who benefit – parents are encouraged to join in on the action. “We’re trying to make a change in their kid’s life and that means that the parents need to be involved, too,” Kimberly says.

This holistic approach is creating what Kimberly calls “Fire Families,” where parents and children can work out together, fostering a family culture that values health and fitness.

Kimberly Joiner’s dedication and passion have not gone unnoticed. KBTX and Daniel Stark proudly presented her with the Be Remarkable award. Claudia Yanez, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at Daniel Stark, praises Kimberly, saying, “Your passion is very evident. You and others, you saw a calling, you came, and you’ve met it. Y’all are doing it.”

Kimberly’s commitment not only changes lives but inspires others in the community to follow suit. Her work is a shining example of how one person’s vision can spark a movement, encouraging everyone to find a need in their community and meet it with enthusiasm and dedication.

It’s through efforts like Kimberly’s that we build remarkable communities, one active child and one engaged family at a time. Congratulations, Kimberly Joiner, for being a true embodiment of the Be Remarkable spirit!
