The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has escalated the recent recall of certain Palmer Candy Company products to Class I, the highest risk level, for possible Salmonella contamination.

This recall affects numerous consumers and stores across Texas, including popular retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Dollar General.

Salmonella infection poses a serious health risk and can sometimes be fatal. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at increased risk for severe symptoms.

Palmer Candy listed more than 25 confectionary products with possible contamination, after the supplier of the white liquid coating used on the candy notified them of the risk.
