KILLEEN, Texas — Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers hosted their first annual Car Seat Safety Event on July 20, 2024. The event, held at the Daniel Stark office in Killeen, offered free car seat inspections and distributed children’s car seats to community members in need.
Daniel Stark partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to conduct safety inspections and replace car seats that did not meet the necessary criteria. During the event, 37 car seat inspections were conducted. In total, Daniel Stark provided 34 new child car seats to the community, which were distributed and installed by trained technicians at no cost.
Linda McMillan, public communications director at Daniel Stark, said the motivation for the event started with Founding Partner Danny Daniel, who struggled to install a car seat for his newborn son. This experience highlighted the importance of car seat safety and inspired him to spread awareness on the issue. “At Daniel Stark, we’re more than just attorneys – we’re parents and community members,” McMillan said. “As a personal injury firm, we see the tragic consequences of improperly installed car seats. That’s why we are committed to providing free car seats and car seat inspections – to protect our community’s most precious cargo.”
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 756 children died in car crashes in 2022, with 39% of those children being unrestrained. However, only one in five parents regularly check their child’s car seat for correct installation, and 46% of children are not properly buckled up. Correct usage of child safety seats lowers medical costs, prevents lost future earnings, and improves the quality of life for children after a collision. The car seat inspection event had an estimated economic impact of $83,448, according to Texas A&M AgriLife.
Gina Rodriguez, program manager with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Passenger Safety, said the main goal of the event was for every child to leave safer than when they arrived.
“We like to educate the parents and caregivers and allow them to be confident in transporting their children,” Rodriguez said.
After hosting the renowned Car Seat Safety Event for 17 years in Bryan-College Station, Daniel Stark was thrilled to extend their Car Seat Safety Event to the Killeen community. This year’s event was a remarkable success, thanks to the unwavering support and dedication of parents, technicians, and volunteers.
